Areen’s work with textiles is deeply connected to her heritage, identity, and the threads of memory that weave through our lives. Growing up Palestinian, she has long been fascinated by the power of carpets, not just as functional objects, but as symbols of roots, culture, and continuity.
The Islamic garden has been a central source of inspiration: its structured yet flowing layout, the interplay of water, plants, and pathways, and its symbolic representation of paradise. In this collection, Hassan explores the transformation of the Islamic garden from a grounded, architectural space into a textile form, a carpet becomes a miniature vision of paradise, where the spiritual, the material, and the cultural converge.
Each piece in the collection becomes a meditative space, tracing a journey from dream and paradise, to movement, to grounding, reflecting both the heritage of the Islamic garden and its translation into contemporary textile practice. Through hand-knotted wool and silk, natural dyes, and carefully considered compositions, Hassan explores the interplay of flow, structure, and spiritual reflection, inviting viewers to engage with the infinite possibilities woven into culture, memory, and identity.
